Actually, It looks like his brake drum is still attached to the wheel. Oops.

Uh, I’m no expert on them, but I believe some Bugatti models do indeed have brake drums that are integral with the wheel. This might be a Brescia model, of which I have seen only one, but don’t know about the drum/wheel on them.

Does anyone who the original photographer was or where a higher res image might be found? We’d like to do a large wall hanging of this image for the shop.

This is indeed a “Brescia” Bugatti, or Type 23, and this particular car, nicknamed “Cordon Bleu” was raced extensively by Raymond Mays–later to build ERAs and BRMs–who seems to have lost both rear wheels on this hillclimb! –Mike Jacobsen
